What was once the former location of the Sugar Bowl is now a Taiwanese noodle place called Moodle. The decor here is basic with good use of contrasting colours. The arrangement of various items on the left corner of the room reminded me of a neatly assembled scrap heap of unwanted items. The service here was good, however communication seemed to be a hurdle at times.
Beef Noodle Soup is their main seller, however they have a range of side dishes on their limited menu. Tonight, I decided to order the Braised Beef Noodle Soup with a serving of their Salted Popcorn Chicken. I was impressed with the speed in which the dishes were ready. In less than 10 minutes, all the meals came out in the sequence in which they were ordered.
The Popcorn Chicken was indeed salty. The chicken was moist and tender, and the batter was nice and light. The Braised Beef Noodle Soup came with a side of pickled vegetables, which it really needed. The soup had a strong flavour of star anise, but it needed the vegetables to give it more balance. The beef was tender and lean, and there were a few unrecognizable items that weren’t particularly appetizing. The noodles were firm and well cooked.

As the venue is located on quieter part of Gouger Street, the atmosphere was quite relaxed. The pricing is very reasonable with no dish over $12. It’s actually not too bad for a cheap feed. I just felt the beef noodle soup here was a bit of an acquired taste, particularly if you’re not used to it.
