I’ve been to the Austral so many times and yet I haven’t reviewed it!
The Austral just brings back so many pleasant memories, right back to when I was at university. The drunken nights, the pub crawls, the hearty meals and the live music are what makes this place so special. I even managed to get lucky here on several occasions.
Tonight, I ordered the 300g Porterhouse Steak. The meal came out after a 15 minute wait and all meals arrived at the same time. The steak was tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. There was a light pinkish tinge in the centre which was just right.
The mashed potato wasn’t that great. I liked the fact that they used real potatoes but I think they added too much milk during the cooking process. The mash potato was just very watery. A bit more salt and pepper wouldn’t have gone astray. The gravy didn’t have much taste either and was also watery.

With all that being said, it is still a great place to hang out, any night of the week. You could almost call it an institution in Adelaide.
