There’s some really special about the restaurants along King William Road. I have discovered 4 quality restaurants literally within metres of each other. One of the restaurants should have received a 5 star review had it not been for the foreign object I found in one of my dishes. Raj On Taj is just simply amazing!
The Raj On Taj is an old bungalow that has been converted into a restaurant. The front veranda has been extended out to the boundary and then enclosed to provide seating. There is also seating inside, but that’s usually reserved for those who have made a booking. For cold winter nights there are portable heaters at the front to keep the customers warm. With candles at every table and cool blue LED lights scattered across the veranda ceiling, it really does set the mood for a cosy and intimate evening.
After being seated at the restaurant, it took a good 10 minutes before I was provided with a menu. I initially wasn’t happy with this, but when they came out with the complimentary pappadums soon after, I realised I was mistaken. Tonight, I ordered the Vegetable Samosas and the Lamb Chops. The meals arrived 15 minutes after ordering and everything arrived at the same time.
PAPPADUMS – The pappadums were freshly cooked and straight out the deep frier. These weren’t the plain ones but contained herbs. They were nice and crunchy, and perfect to snack on while the other meals were being prepared.
VEGETABLE SAMOSAS – The samosas were of a nice size and were perfectly cooked. The flour exterior was a bit thicker than what I was expecting, but I guess I can’t complain as I was getting more dough for my dough. The filling was nicely spiced as you could taste the mild curry flavour.
LAMB CHOPS – 4 thick juicy French lamb cutlets cooked perfectly as a dry curry dish. The lamb was succulent and tender, and the flavours were just right. There’s only one other Indian restaurant that I know of that makes them this good.

The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was exceptional. The price point was on par with other Indian restaurants. A thoroughly enjoyable meal. One of the best Indian restaurants in Adelaide.
