Burger It

Burger It has been around for several years now and it’s had a lot of mixed reviews. As it was a burger place that I had yet to conquer, it was time to put their “seriously good burgers” to the test. The decor here is kind of funky and yet basic. While there was a bar table and normal seating areas, it didn’t strike me as “dine in” friendly. The pricing of the burgers ranged from $9-$14 which is on par with all the other specialty burger joints.

Tonight, I ordered the Lamb Bonanza Burger; lamb, relish, tzatziki sauce, lettuce, caramelised onion and tomato. The burgers were ready 15 minutes after ordering and were nicely presented. The meal came on a small plate with no cutlery.

THE LAMB PATTY – The patty was of a nice thickness but a bit small in diameter. I feel the patty should have covered the diameter of the bun so that you don’t get bites without meat. The lamb was slightly overcooked and a bit dry. I surprised by this as I saw tinges of pink in the centre. The meat wasn’t too oily or greasy, and the lamb tasted a bit bland. A bit of extra seasoning wouldn’t have gone astray.

THE BUN – Nice soft non-toasted bun which was firm and lightly floured on top. The bun wasn’t crusty and did not fall apart during rough handling. There was nothing inside the bun that affected the taste of the burger.

THE FILLINGS – I felt the sun blushed tomato was the real winner in this dish. It really complimented the lamb perfectly. The subtle sweetness of the tomato really worked well with the dry meat. The lettuce was fresh and crispy, and the caramelised onion was a perfect golden brown. The tzatziki sauce was of a nice thick consistency and you could really taste the garlic flavour. All the ingredients worked really well together and it was a very tasty burger.

The atmosphere was relaxed as there weren’t too many people dining there at the time. The staff were nice and friendly, and the experience as a whole was quite enjoyable. Only real downside was the small overcooked patty but I’m not going to hold it against them. In the words of Arnie, “I’ll be back”.
