East End Yiros really give their competition a run for their money. Located on the quieter Eastern end of Grenfell Street, East End Yiros make some of the best yiros I have eaten in Adelaide. The store itself is small, with seating upstairs, several on the ground floor, and the majority outside. You could probably seat 20-25 people all up.
Today, I ordered the Lamb and Chicken Combination Platter. The meals came out after a 10 minute wait and all meals arrived at the same time. The platter was well presented and very delicious. Both the lamb and chicken were well marinated, tender, succulent and perfectly cooked. Curry powder was used in the seasoning of the chicken and the taste was slightly bland. The lamb, on the other hand, was the preferred meat, as the flavour was well balanced. The caramelised Spanish onion mixed in with the meat gave the dish more depth.
The meat was sitting on top a few slices of lightly toasted pita bread. The juices from the meat were soaking into the bread which actually made it taste better. The tzatziki dip was well executed. The proportions of yogurt, garlic and lemon juice were spot on. On the platter, there were 4 salads; Potato Salad, Greek Salad, Pickled Salad and Cabbage Salad. The Potato Salad was my favourite. The potatoes were soft and delicate and the inclusion of Spanish onion was a match made in heaven. The Greek Salad was good, as the vegetables were fresh and crisp, however the feta cheese wasn’t as fresh as I was expecting. The Pickled Salad was OK and the Cabbage Salad was my least favourite. Shredded cabbage in olive and lemon dressing seemed so pedestrian.

The serving size of my platter was huge and I was more than satisfied. The quality of the meal was better than you would get at a restaurant. The price range is on par with other places around the city. The staff were friendly and the service was pretty good. Being a quieter part of the city, the atmosphere was relaxed. Overall, I felt the experience was almost life changing. My new favourite place to eat Yiros in Adelaide!
