Chefs Of Tandoori

Chefs of Tandoori is a suburban Indian restaurant located in a small complex of eateries on Unley Road. The restaurant appears small from the outside but is considerably spacious on the inside, particularly with the upstairs dining area at the back of the restaurant. The decor is traditional with good use of dark timber throughout. The Indian picture frames and ornaments hanging off the walls, the modern leather seating, the traditional music playing in the background and the dim lighting really set the mood at this place.

Tonight, I ordered the Vegetable Samosas for the entree and the Tandoori Chicken as the main. I was surprised that both dishes arrived 10 minutes after ordering. The Vegetables Samosas were delicious. The pastry wasn’t too thick and the colour was a nice golden brown. The filling was a combination of potato and minced onion which was seasoned with ginger, coriander and cumin. The flavour was well balanced and not too spicy.

The Tandoori Chicken was good, although I thought the chicken pieces were a bit small. Due to the speed at which my dish arrived, I suspected the chicken was cooked earlier and then reheated. With that being said, the chicken was tender and succulent and the flavours were right. The turmeric and coriander were quite prominent in this dish. The sweet red pepper powder was used to give the chicken its distinctive red colour.

The staff were friendly and inviting, and the service was pretty good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the experience as a whole was quite good. The items on the menu were reasonably priced, which was sup rising considering the posh suburb it’s located in. Not a bad place to visit. Will come back again.
