Adelaide Pho

Adelaide Pho is located in a building that was once my internet service provider. Now a Vietnamese restaurant, it specialises in Beef Noodle Soup as well as other traditional Vietnamese dishes. The decor is basic and the place could seat about 50 people. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is pretty good.

Today, I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup with Sliced Raw Beef. The dish came out in less than 10 minutes of ordering and the dish was well presented. Along with the dish were all the trimmings you would expect; bean sprouts, coriander, basil, lemon and fresh chilli. I also liked the fact that this placed offered the extra spicy chilli paste you would get at a Yum Cha restaurant. Anyway, I digress!

The large serving size was decent and the broth was piping hot. When the broth is made, there is usually a thick layer of fat that floats on the surface. Some Vietnamese restaurants actually serve this with the beef noodle soup, however, this place did not. The broth was lighter than I had expected, but was still full of flavour and healthier than most.

The beef was lean and there was a generous quantity of it. The noodles were fresh and perfectly cooked. While the weather was fine and sunny, I really should have come here on a cold winters day. The Beef Noodle Soup was tasty, but I was sweating profusely because of it. I almost felt like I had just come out of a sauna.

I’m probably a bit biased when it comes to Beef Noodle Soup because I make it myself. It’s not the best that I’ve ever had, but it’s not the worst either. This place has a lot going for it and I certainly recommend you give this place a try.
