If you manage to get to the Whitmore Hotel without getting mugged, you can take advantage of the $10 Pint and Parmi special that is on every Wednesday until the end of February. The former strip club, now turned pub, is basically decorated and offers all your traditional pub fare. The clientele are a bit older, but if you enjoy hanging out with your parents, you’ll certainly love it here.
Today, I came for the $10 Pint and Parmi deal, which is pretty good considering you’d pay $7-$8 for a pint of Pale Ale at any other pub. Sounding too good to be true, I came here with no expectations. The outdoor table I was sitting at was absolutely filthy, but nothing phased me about this place. The meal came out 15 minutes after ordering and was very well presented.
The chicken schnitzel was of an adequate size and thickness, and was perfectly cooked. The Napoletana sauce had adequate coverage over the schnitzel but was slightly sour and had bits of onion in it. The sauce was reminiscent of the pre-made red pasta sauce you’d get out of a jar. While there was an adequate amount of mozzarella cheese, it appeared as though they had used the pre-grated cheese you get from the supermarkets.
The beer battered chips were well cooked; crunchy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside. There were probably a few too many crunchy bits for my liking, and I’ve eaten better quality chips during my time on this planet. The vegetables in the salad were fresh and crispy. The vinaigrette dressing was nice, but they overdressed it, with the bottom half my salad absolutely drowning.

For $10, the Pint and Parmi deal is pretty good value for money. The Parmi was nowhere near the best that I’ve had, but who am I to complain for the price I had paid. The service was good and the atmosphere was exciting. There’s a sense of exhilaration from looking over your shoulder every 5 minutes to see if you get robbed. Is it the best $10 meal in town? Perhaps. Would I go there again? Probably not.
