Fishbone Cafe

Feeling indecisive and not sure about what to eat, I stumbled upon the Fishbone Cafe in Glenelg. To one side of the store, they sell gelati (as a separate business), and on the other side, where the kitchen area is, they sell fish and chips, with other deep fried seafood options. The store is basically decorated and reminded me of a hoarders paradise. I normally like to see clean lines with the minimalist look, but this place was cramped and full of clutter. The dining tables were filthy and in desperate need for a clean.

I ordered the Fish and Chips, which took close to 20 minutes to arrive. The presentation of the dish was nice which is what attracted me to this place. There’s nothing like getting a good food photo. While the fish was nicely crumbed, the fish itself was not fresh and overcooked. The chips were perfectly cooked and well salted. The quality of the chips, however, was lacking. I had too many of those throw away crunchy bits and not enough actual chips with the soft fluffiness on the inside.

The staff were friendly, the service was good and the atmosphere was relaxed. Unfortunately, the dining experience as a whole was disappointing. If you only have a few items on the menu, you really need to get these dishes right. Oh, I miss the traditional fish and chips I had back in London.
