After having dinner with a group of friends on O’Connell Street, we noticed this newly opened dessert lounge was located just across the road. There’s always room for dessert no matter how full you are, so this was a good enough excuse to pay this place a visit.
The first thing I noticed about this place is the unusually small entrance door. The door was cut in half to make a double door which was the width of a standard sized door. When opening one of the doors at this place, one has to basically walk in sideways to squeeze in. Not particularly good after just having the Indian banquet just across the road.
The interior of the dessert lounge reminded me of a beautiful warehouse conversion with its large open space and higher than normal ceilings. The south-east corner is an open seated area for smaller groups, while the north-east and south-west corners are private lounge areas that are divided by curtains for larger ones. The remaining corner is where the bar and kitchen is located.
The menu’s at this place are unique and environmentally friendly. Everyone is given a touch pad, and as you would when using a web page, you can flip through the menu to see what’s on offer.
On this occasion, I ordered the Bombe Alaska. Having ordered one at a different dessert place, I was ready to be impressed by the burning blue flames of the brandy surrounding the meringue. This did not happen. We ordered 5 Bombe Alaska’s, the waitress lined them up all at the same time, and set them alight. Like a man in desperate need for Viagra, the flames lasted no more than 5 seconds.

As you would expect, the dessert itself was beautifully presented. The meringue was firm and stable which indicates fresh eggs were used. It was baked for just the right amount of time and you could tell it was freshly made. The sponge cake inside was light and fluffy, and was a perfect compliment to the smooth cream filling.
The atmosphere is vibrant and the decor is contemporary and chic. The service is exceptional, and the desserts are well presented and executed perfectly. Definitely a perfect place to visit if you want to impress that date!
