Located in the south east corner of the city, the Gilbert Street Hotel is set in a beautiful historical building. The interior is dramatic yet sophisticated. The dining area is simple and inviting. The warm lighting sets the mood for that romantic evening.
The staff were friendly and inviting, and the food didn’t take too long to arrive. Tonight I ordered the Chicken Parmi. It’s not the biggest schnitzel that I’ve had but it had a good thickness to it. The chicken was perfectly cooked, however, I felt the parmigiana topping could have been better. The tomato based topping was spread thinly over the schnitzel and it didn’t have that rich texture that I am used to. The amount of mozzarella on the schnitzel was sufficient. The bowl of salad provided was a bit small and my chips were squashed under the weight of the schnitzel. The chips were perfectly cooked although they were slightly over salted.

Probably not the best schnitzel I’ve ever had, but its also not the worst. Overall, the meal was satisfying and the dining experience was pleasant. I’d say give this place a go.
