Elephant Walk Cafe

I hadn’t heard much about the Elephant Walk until tonight. It’s a cosy little dessert bar located on the busy Melbourne Street cafe strip. It doesn’t have great signage and is very dimly lit, making me wonder whether it was in fact open or not.

The place consists of numerous small booths divided by bamboo separators. Each booth has low level seating with a small table and lamp. With the low level red light and soothing music playing in the background, it really sets the scene for some canoodling after that romantic dinner.

I thought there was a limited selection to the desserts available. The desserts themselves seemed quite simple and the menu prices seemed a bit high for what they were offering. On this particular occasion, we ordered the Chocolate Fondue, Gilligan’s Island (Waffles, Banana, Ice Cream, Whipped Cream and Coconut) and the Chocolate Pudding. The Chocolate Fondue was pretty stock standard. Gilligan’s Island, I could have made myself. The Chocolate Pudding was pretty good. The pudding was moist and not too sweet. The serving sizes were generous.

The service was pretty good. The desserts came out quickly and the staff were around when required. One waiting staff even came around and made sure the chocolate wasn’t burning on the fondue. I would say this place is certainly an experience. Would I come back to this place? Only if that dinner date went well and I wanted to get to the next base.
