The Gov is an absolutely awesome venue, particularly for live music. I’ve come here on so many occasions, mainly to catch up with friends for drinks. On one occasion, over 60 friends came along and we had half the pub to ourselves. The pub is conveniently located outside the last tram stop so catching the last tram home is an absolute godsend.
For food, I ordered the Chicken Parmi. I know it was a busy night, but my meal took an hour to arrive, and not all meals arrived at the same time. I was so hungry that anything that came out was going to taste good. The chicken was nicely cooked and of an adequate size.
The Napoletana sauce was a bit bland but had appropriate coverage over the chicken. The amount of mozzarella topping was adequate but it could have spent a bit more time under the grill. The chips were OK and weren’t over salted. The salad was fresh as the vegetables were nice and crisp. The vinaigrette dressing was good and not too much was applied.

The atmosphere here is vibrant and can get very noisy, particularly when bands are playing. Unless you’re sitting outside, talking can be rather difficult as a lot of shouting is required to communicate. On this occasion, the service was quite poor. Mixed up orders and long waiting times were of a particular concern. For the price I paid for the Chicken Parmi, it wasn’t all that great either.
Will definitely come back here for drinks and to catch up with friends, but maybe not so much for the food.
