$10 meals from Monday to Friday? Yibbida! Yibbida! That’s all folks!

The Astor is one of my many local pubs. Located on the corner of Gilles and Pulteney, this venue is a favourite for functions or after work drinks. I for one, come here for the cheap meals. Who needs to go grocery shopping, go home and prepare a meal, and then clean up afterwards? No need, I just rock up to The Astor for my cheap feed.

I like to rate a pub based on their Chicken Parmi. Food arrived 15 minutes after ordering and was nicely presented. Schnitzel was a little small in diameter but of an appropriate thickness. Chicken was juicy, succulent and perfectly cooked. Napoletana sauce was rich in texture with appropriate coverage over the schnitzel. Mozzarella topping was conservatively applied and could have spent more time browning under the grill. Chips were the French fries variety and could have been cooked a bit longer for my liking. Salad was fresh and crisp, and they didn’t go overboard with the vinaigrette dressing.

The staff here are really friendly and are always ready for a chat. The service was good, and the atmosphere can be a bit loud, as you would expect from a pub. The Chicken Parmi wasn’t the best I’ve had but it was certainly above average. For the price I paid, who am I to complain?

Cheap meals, cheap drinks, perfect stumbling distance home. Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner!
