The Hotel Metropolitan

Some of my favourite pubs in Adelaide are the ones that have undergone renovations to blend in the old with the new. The Metro doesn’t have that, but instead has an old world charm about it. We came here on a lazy Sunday afternoon after an exciting session at an indoor firing range and the place was virtually empty. The pub offers all your traditional fare at prices which are slightly higher than average.

As per usual, I ordered the Chicken Parmi. The meals came out 20 minutes after ordering and the presentation was OK. I felt the real estate space on the plate wasn’t being properly utilised, particularly with my hard earned cash. Under my small Chicken Parmi was a couple of spoonfuls of steamed vegetables. To me, it didn’t represent good value for money.

The chicken was cooked well as it was succulent and juicy. The Napoletana sauce was light in texture and had sufficient coverage over the schnitzel. The amount of mozzarella cheese was adequate, and had spent the right amount of time cooking under the grill.

For the particular price point at this place, I feel their servings should be a bit larger. The service was good (because we were the only ones there) and the atmosphere was relaxed. I’d probably come here for drinks and not so much for the food.
