Pho Nam

Pho Nam is a small Vietnamese restaurant located on Kensington Road. The signage isn’t great and the interior is simply decorated. The staff are friendly and the place is nice and cosy.

The items on their menu are limited. This is a good thing as I would rather a chef cook a few things well rather than numerous things not so well. I’m also amazed at their prices. Very cheap for a restaurant.

On this particular occasion I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup. Since they named the restaurant after their main dish, I assumed that was what they were good at making. The Beef Noodle Soup that I ordered had a combination of raw slices of beef and precooked beef. When the dish comes with raw beef slices, you expect the broth to be steaming hot so that the beef can cook itself. That wasn’t the case and I wasn’t overly impressed.

The serving size was decent for what you were paying. The broth was nice although there was a bit too much MSG. The noodles were well cooked and there was a sufficient amount of meat. All the vegetables that you would get with a Beef Noodle Soup were provided but you wouldn’t expect anything less.

Overall, it wasn’t the best Beef Noodle Soup I’ve ever had, but it’s also not the worst. For the price you’re paying, I’d say give this place a go.
