Pirie Street is really livening up on the food scene with yet another new eatery opening up. Brought to you by the same owners as Pizza E Mozzarella Bar, comes a more casual eatery called Chicken & Pig. It’s purely a take away joint that targets the lunchtime work crowd. On the menu are a selection of daily meats (chicken and pork are a given), salads and panini. It’s not your typical lunch bar and because the place is owned by three chefs, you know the food is going to be good.
For lunch, I ordered the Roast Pork with Broccoli, Kale and Smoked Almond Salad. The meal is served in a takeaway container and is of a reasonable size. The pork was tender, well marinated and succulent, and had you begging for more. The broccoli was firm and the kale was leafy with a nutty, earthy flavour. The almonds had a lovely smokey flavour and added depth to the salad.
The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. Pricing is fairly reasonable with salads under the $10 mark and salads with meat setting you back $12.50. The food is of a high quality and the serving sizes satisfactory. The only thing missing is somewhere to sit down and eat it.
