Just when you thought the Mexican food trend had past, out comes the Beach Burrito Company, a franchise that already has 11 stores in the eastern states. There aren’t too many surprises on the menu with nachos, taquitos, burritos, fajitas, chimichangas, enchiladas, quesadillas and tacos.

The ground floor space has a bar and kitchen area with chairs and tables surrounding it. Located on a nice corner position, there is plenty of natural light flowing through it’s frontages.

The upstairs area is a continuation of the bare bones structure with exposed brickwork and ceiling space. There’s another bar area which is surrounded by bench stools and tables.

For lunch, I ordered 3 soft shell tacos; (from right to left) Chilli Con Carne, Chipotle Chicken and Lime Chilli Garlic Prawn. The dish came out after a 45 minute wait, which I thought was totally unacceptable. When the tacos finally came out, I noticed a difference in the amount of filling with each taco.
The Chilli Con Carne taco consisted of chilli con carne, Mexican rice, pico de gallo, lettuce, blended cheese, smokey salsa, guacamole, sour cream, chilli salt and coriander served with a wedge of lime. The soft shell taco was so flimsy and delicate, it simply fell apart when I picked it up. I suspect it couldn’t take the heat of the chilli con carne. The rice was undercooked which essentially ruined the taco.
The Chipotle Chicken taco consisted of chargrilled chicken, frijoles, pico de gallo, blended cheese, smokey salsa, guacamole, sour cream, chilli salt and coriander served with a wedge of lime. Once again, the taco fell apart when picked up. The chicken didn’t really have much flavour to it, but the ingredients worked well together.
The Lime Chilli Garlic Prawn taco consisted of prawns cooked in lime juice and chilli garlic butter, Mexican rice, pico de gallo, blended cheese, mango, pineapple and jalapeno salsa, guacamole, chilli salt and coriander served with a wedge of lime. Once again, the rice was undercooked. The mango and pineapple did provide a nice refreshing burst of sweetness, and the taco was different to what I had expected.

The service was too slow and the tacos were below average. The cost of the 3 tacos was $14.95, which is on par with their competitors. If you look at the prices of their other items, everything seems to be between $15-$20 which is pricey for Mexican street food.
I won’t be back at this place anytime soon.
