Just about every suburb has their own local charcoal chicken shop. The one in Glenelg North is Tapley’s Charcoal Chicken located at the beginning of Tapleys Hill Road as you head towards Harbour Town. As their name suggests, charcoal chicken is available, either hot or cold, or in hot packs. There are also burgers, salads and a range of snacks, but surprisingly, that’s about it. It’s all about keeping it simple I guess. The place itself is primarily a takeaway store with only four seats at the front of the store.

For lunch, I ordered the Chicken and Chips. The charcoal chicken was freshly cut on the spot, and placed into a small cardboard box. It was then filled with chunky style chips. The utensil provided was a single fork which meant there was no way to eat this without getting your hands dirty.
The chicken was tender and succulent, and the skin was nice and crisp. The chips were fried until crunchy and were adequately salted.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. A quarter chicken and chips, with a can of soft drink, set me back $10.50, which was average.
The meal wasn’t too bad, but it is what it is.
