Cafe on Henley

A Google search on “Cafe on Henley” returned very little, however, when I typed in the address of this cafe, I found out this place used to be called “Flatbread Cafe Mart”. Like many other businesses, this place has undergone a recent re-branding in the hope of attracting new customers. I must admit, I prefer the new generic name.

The first thing that struck me about this place was how cheap their flat bread pizzas were. The pizzas are precooked and on display in the front counter fridge. They’re then re-heated in the gas fired oven when ordered. There’s over half a dozen flat bread pizza toppings to choose from as well as a selection of tapas dishes.

The centre of the room is like a continental supermarket with shelves full of products. The dining area is at the other end to side of the entrance. It’s neat and well presented, however, I would have swapped the shelves and dining area so that there was a bit more natural light when eating.

For lunch, I ordered the Lebanese Chicken Pizza which consists of garlic, tomato, onions, herbs and spices. There’s also the optional lemon and chilli which was added to the pizza. The dish was ready after a 10 minute wait and was nicely presented.

The chicken was tender and succulent with a good amount of healthy breast meat. I think they went overboard with the application of lemon juice because it just tasted very tart, so much so, it masked all the flavours of the other ingredients. The base was nice and thin, and wasn’t oily at all.

The staff were friendly, and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is very reasonable. The cost of my Lebanese Chicken Pizza was $7, which was one of the more expensive items on the menu.

Verdict: Not a bad place to visit for a cheap eat, especially when it’s so close to town. I might hold off on the lemon the next time I order one of their pizzas though.
