Indian Delights is a small store located on the southern end of Pulteney Street. The place is very quaint and seats just over 30 people. The use of timber is prominent throughout and there are several pictures hanging off the wall that gives this place a traditional vibe. There is a small amount of natural light that flows through the frontage but otherwise this place feels very gloomy.
Upon entering this establishment, I was greeted with a reception that was rather hostile. Instead of thinking that I was a customer, they looked at me as though I was a door to door salesperson trying to sell them something. I told them I was here for lunch, and instead of giving me a menu and showing me to my seat, they briefly described the 3 proteins available in their curry dishes. The owners spoke with broken English and I felt communication was a real problem.

Today, I ordered the Butter Chicken. The meal was ready after a 10 minute wait and the presentation was below average. The chicken was well marinated but hard and over cooked. Some of the meat had charred edges while other pieces didn’t have the cartilage removed properly. The sauce was smooth with a subtle sweetness about it. The rice was perfectly cooked with nice individual grains. The curry to rice ratio was well in favour of the rice which was a disappointment.

The staff were not as friendly as I would have expected and the service was average. The atmosphere was relaxed as there was no one else in the store. The lunch time deals they have are $8.90 which allow you to have any curry off their menu with rice. While it seems like a good offer, they don’t give you enough curry to make it satisfying.
I walk past this store quite often, but next time, I’ll just continue walking.
