It’s no surprise that some of the top fish and chip shops in Adelaide are located in beach side suburbs. Located on a side street just off Henley Beach Road is the Stunned Mullet. It’s not a particularly large store with most of their clientele being take away customers as they head towards the beach. They do offer various meal options in a dish, but I could only see one table in the entire place which wasn’t too desirable as you’d be eating next to the waiting customers. Their menu is not too different to any other fish and chip shop, however, I did notice a larger selection of burgers to choose from.

Today, I ordered the Garfish and Chips. With plenty of customers, there was a good 15 minute wait before I got my meal. Unlike traditional places, the food was served in a nice little cardboard box, so bonus points for presentation. The fish was soft and delicate, and coated in a nice crispy batter. The chips were not hand cut, but were of a good quality. They were nice and crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside. The fish and chips were well drained, and weren’t too oily.

So what makes this place better than other fish and chip stores? The quality of the fish and chips is quite good. Everything was well cooked and nicely presented. They cook all their meals in cholesterol free oil so that should count for something. The staff were friendly and the service was fairly efficient.
They make pretty good fish and chips here and it’s no surprise they’ve won numerous awards. Definitely worth a visit!
