Veggie Velo

I would never have thought I’d be eating vegetarian burgers, let alone one from a French hippie riding around on a push bike with a grill attached.

That all changed when Veggie Velo parked itself a few metres away from my house. On the bike menu, there is the option of 2 vegetarian burgers, a salad or some of their sweet treats.

This morning, I decided to order the Quinoa Burger. The burger consists of a quinoa patty,  lettuce, carrot, beetroot, alfalfa inside a lightly toasted rye bun. The patty was fried to a nice golden brown and it was so delicate that it fell apart when you touched it. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, with the lettuce, carrot and beetroot gave this burger a crunchy texture. The fried onion jam gave it real depth while the tobasco sauce made it more exciting. The rye bun was a bit thick, but it did well to hold all the ingredients together.

All things considered, it was a surprisingly tasty burger. Manu and his team are ever so friendly, and it was a pleasure chatting to them while they were preparing my meal. The burger cost $10 which is the cheapest and tastiest I’ve had so far.

Give them a try! It’s worth it!
