Horus Egyptian Cafe & Shisha House

Horus has been around for a while and is one of the first places in Adelaide to offer shisha from a hookah. As the title of the place suggests, shisha is their main seller. There’s a smog of fragrant fumes you have get through before you enter this place. There’s a small seating area at the front of the venue which could be considered traditional in style, while the rest seems a bit basic, and perhaps a little run down.

Aside from the shisha, they also sell Arabic food. Their chicken and lamb kebabs are quite popular, however, if you’ve got a sugar craving, they have you covered with a range of sweets. Early this morning, I ordered the Lamb Kebab on a Plate. I’m not sure whether this was a mixed blessing, but I had to wait 30 minutes for my meal. While my friends got their meals with meat that was carved earlier, the lamb on my dish was freshly carved off the rotisserie.

My dish was simply amazing! The lamb was well marinated, lean, succulent and tender. The lettuce, tomato and onion were fresh and crisp. The garlic sauce was soft and delicate, and had loads of garlic in it. My friends who received the meals using the older meat reported that the lamb was a bit tough. The amount of time that has passed from when the meat was carved and served to you will determine your experience. My dish was very satisfying.

The service was really slow at this place. The staff were too laid back and it doesn’t take 30 minutes to carve some meat off a rotisserie. My friends had all finished their meals before I received mine. With that being said, the freshly carved meat made it more delicious and I probably had a better experience. At $14.80 for the plate, it’s on par with what you would pay elsewhere.

The food was a pleasant surprise, and definitely worth a visit if you’re hungry at 2am in the morning.

Hey, do you happen to know if they sell shisha there for personal use?

    1. Not that I’m aware of, but you can always ask! 😃
