Many moons ago, my cousin introduced me to The Meat and Wine Co in Sydney. I loved it so much, we actually went there twice during my brief visit. Fast forward to now and my group of friends suggest we visit the same store at Southbank for dinner. How could I have possibly said no when the thought of this place has me salivating uncontrollably.
Unlike the restaurant in Sydney, The Meat and Wine Co at Southbank is located in a three storey building. The prices on the menu alone would suggest this place is fine dining and it pretty much is. As the name of the restaurant suggests, this place is a meat lovers paradise with a focus on my three favourite food items; steaks, ribs and burgers.
For dinner, I ordered the full rack of Pork Ribs. The meal came out after a 20 minute wait and was nicely presented on a wooden chopping board. The ribs were large in width and length and about the size of a standard computer keyboard. The pork was well marinated, tender and succulent, with the meat simply falling off the bone. The dish came with a side of onion rings which were lightly battered and deep fried.
As a side note, the base of the onion rings bowl has a hole in it. I made the mistake of moving my bowl of onion rings away from the chopping board only to find the contents of the bowl all over the table.

The following are the dishes of my meat loving companions who were all completely satisfied.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the service was excellent. Drinks arrived promptly and plates were cleared as we finished. The atmosphere was vibrant, but that’s expected when the restaurant is full. The cost my meal was $45 which is about the same price I paid in Sydney many years ago.
With great service, atmosphere, serving sizes and quality of food, this place did everything right and an enjoyable dining experience was had by all. Now only if they open a restaurant in Adelaide!
