North Indian Cuisine is the new Indian dine in and take away store that has just opened on Hindley Street. Not much thought has gone into the naming of the place, but you guessed it, North Indian Cuisine sells North Indian cuisine. This long and narrow store seats about 20 with no outdoor dining available.
The place is basically decorated with 3 serving sizes available on all their meals. There’s also different pricing depending on whether you’re eating in or taking away, with dine in prices slightly more expensive. The store itself appears to be family run, and the service here is fast and efficient.
North Indian Cuisine sells all your favourite Indian curries such as Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan Josh, Lamb Korma and Beef Vindaloo, only to name a few. I did notice they sell a Goat Meat Masala which is not often available at every Indian take away. Vegetarians don’t miss out either with curries such as Mixed Vegetable, Navrattan Korma and Mattar Mushroom.
Having already had lunch, I decided to settle for a snack consisting of a Vegetable Samosa and a Meat Samosa. I actually make my own samosa at home and have had it at many Indian restaurants so I can tell whether it’s good or not. The first thing I noticed was the varying sizes of their samosa, the Meat Samosa was quite generous in size, while the Vegetable Samosa looked a bit malnourished.

The Meat Samosa was nicely spiced and full of minced beef. There was the odd pea or two mixed in there, and the samosa itself had a nice light kick to it. I found the Vegetable Samosa to be a bit bland. It was full of mashed potato that wasn’t quite mashed. When I cook vegetable samosas at home, I like to add onions, peas and chili oil. This actually makes it more exciting and less pedestrian.

While I didn’t eat any of the curries here, I did see the serving sizes from some of the other customers. The large size was fairly substantial and for under $10, it appears to be good value for money. The Meat Samosa was good and the Vegetable Samosa was below average. I may have to come back and judge their curries at some point down the track.
