It’s been a while since I’ve been to the Blue and White. I had my very first AB here many years ago and had been a loyal customer for quite some time. After a while the quality of the AB dropped and I found myself eating at the Red and White. For review purposes, I decided to see whether anything has changed.
The Blue and White was closed over Christmas, and even closed on particular week nights. I found this annoying because I’ve driven past on several occasions only to find it closed. The Red and White on the other hand is always open. Finally getting here when it was open, the first thing that I noticed is the pricing. AB at Blue and White $14. AB at Red and White $12.50. Not a good start for two stores that are virtually next to each other.
Tonight, I ordered the Lamb AB. After a 15 minute wait, my meal was ready and nicely presented. The one thing I do love about the Blue and White is their use of hot chilli sauce. The Red and White uses sweet chilli sauce which kind of ruins the AB. The amount of chilli, garlic and tomato sauce was perfect for the serving size.

The lamb was lean, perfectly marinated and served in generous proportions. the lamb was crispy but not so hard that you would break a molar. The chips were nice and thick, and beautifully cooked; nice and crunchy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside.
The AB I had tonight was pretty good and satisfying. The quality of the AB has improved since I last came here. I do feel their price point is a bit high. They are more expensive than their nearest competitor, and for $14, I can get double the portion in Norwood.
Overall, it is still a good place to come for an AB. As I used to come here a lot when I was younger, I still have a soft spot for this place. Unfortunately, other places are now doing it better, and you can get an AB at most fish and chip shops these days (although not as good). By all means, come here if you must, just know there is better out there.
