The Clubhouse out at Tanunda is enriched with history and the site dates back to 1891. Renown as an icon in the Barossa, this establishment has been well known for it’s community service over the years, however, these days it’s more about the hospitality. One of the main features inside the dining area is the wall length photograph which gives the illusion of dining amongst the vineyards. With regards to dining, it’s all about local fresh produce combined with their extensive wine list. Their speciality is steak and seafood, however, the traditional pub favourites are also available.

For lunch, I ordered the Bloody Big Burger. The meal was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented on a wooden chopping board. The beef patty was nice and thick, and its diameter was the same size as the bun. The meat was tender and succulent, with a nice pinkish centre. The rasher bacon was fried until crisp, and the egg was cooked sunny side up with the beautiful sight of yolk dripping down the side of the burger. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, while the tomato was firm and ripe. The bun was reminiscent of something you’d get at Hungry Jacks, and it wasn’t firm enough to hold all the ingredients. I started off eating the burger by hand, but it simply fell apart half way through and I had to resort to a knife and fork. The fries were the thin French fry variety. They were nice and crunchy, and perfectly salted.

These are the dishes that the group ordered. I did manage to try the Herb and Parmesan Pizza Bread. It wasn’t to everyone’s liking, but I didn’t think it was too bad.

The staff were friendly and the service at times, was a bit slow. Ordering involves paying at the bar, and during a busy lunch time rush, there’s a line 20 people long. When I was there, there was only one person behind the counter which meant no one was serving drinks. The atmosphere was relaxed and the lit up wall length photograph does make a difference. The cost of the burger was $20 which was a fair price. It’s not the best or biggest burger I’ve ever had, however it was considerable in size. It was only let down by the weak bun. For the most part, everybody enjoyed their meals.
