Richmond Oysters – Richmond – Melbourne

Richmond Oysters has been around for over 50 years and caters for all your seafood needs, whether it be fresh, cooked, dine in or take away. The front part is the restaurant, while the rear is where the fresh seafood is sold. We were here for the seafood and we wanted to try a little bit of everything, so there was no hesitation in getting a couple of the Seafood Platters.

As an entree, we ordered the Pacific Oysters which naturally had a clean, fresh taste of the ocean.

Then came the Seafood Platter which consisted of oysters, king prawns, Moreton Bay bugs, Hervey Bay scallops, blue swimmer crab, grilled prawns, salt and pepper calamari, grilled fish and sashimi. There was so much seafood, I didn’t know where to start! Whether it was fresh, grilled or fried, each and every component of the platter was executed perfectly. I don’t think I’ve ever had a seafood platter this good.

The highlight of the seafood platter were the Mussels which were prepared in a simple tomato and onion broth. The mussels were sweet, plump, tender and beautifully cooked. They were very well complemented by the natural sweetness of the tomato and onion.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. Each platter was $115 which was enough food for two and I believe that’s cheaper than what you get in Adelaide.

The whole experience was fantastic and I would definitely recommend people visit this place when in Melbourne.
