I have to say it really sucks not having a car when you’re in Melbourne. While their public transport system is a lot better than what we have in Adelaide, the walking distance from the tram stop to Dr Jekyll seemed like a considerable distance away. As we walked, it started pouring, and not all of us had umbrellas, so it just made the journey appear even longer.
When we got there, we were about to be seated in their outdoor courtyard. We gathered around the warm portable heaters, but it wasn’t enough to protect us from the elements. We then decided to wait for some of the indoor seats to be freed up, which wasn’t too long. The interior was a nice size, but the seating was a little bit cramped. Ultimately, we were here for the food which has a focus on fresh quality produce.
For brunch, I had the Steak Sandwich. The steak was lean, tender and succulent, and was of an adequate thickness. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the tomato, soft and ripe. The natural sweetness of the caramelised onions complemented the subtle smokiness of the meat. The bread was lightly toasted and lightly drizzled with olive oil.

The rest of the group ordered the following dishes and were all satisfied with their meals.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was vibrant with the busy brunch crowd in for their morning feed. The pricing was reasonable and on par with all the other breakfast places we’d visited while in Melbourne.
