Last Thursday Adelaide Food Central visited Cobb’s Hill Estate. What a day to remember, the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, the wine was flowing and the food was wafting. The large estate located on a spacious farm indulges a cellar door, function area and bed and breakfast. As soon as we stepped foot onto the winery we were baffled at what a striking space they had, I couldn’t stop conjuring up ideas for what function I could have there.
We sampled a few of their wines including white, red and sparkling. My favourite was the Shooting Star Sparkling Rose, displaying delicate beads, with subtle scents of vanilla and fresh berries. I personally enjoy a slightly sweeter sparkling, not overly dry, and the Shooting Star certainly hit this brief. Another great wine was the Pioneer Pinot Noir, currently my favourite blend. The balance of strawberry and cherry combined with a gentle dry finish made for a stunning wine.
Paired with their wines we sampled some of their food, my favourite being the Stockman’s Platter. This huge platter used local and fresh produce, to complement the wines in the best of ways. I thoroughly enjoyed Birky’s French Pate, slathered on a crispy lavosh, and the Woodside Cheese Goats Chèvre. We have some of the best produce in South Australia and it was great to see these being used on every part of their menu. An interesting and unique addition to their menu was the Flammekueche, a stone baked flat bread topped traditionally with sour cream, speck and onion and baked until golden and crispy. This pizza like dish was great to have as a side as it didn’t make me feel bloated or like I was eating anything overly heavy.
So what about their inviting bed and breakfast? I couldn’t think of a better overnight stay then to spend the night in this gorgeous Adelaide hills estate. The three bedroom house could be a perfect overnight getaway with the family, or even a romantic evening with the one you love. What a better way to explore the stunning Adelaide hills region than to experience what Cobb’s Hill Estate has to offer.
Thank you to the team at Cobb’s Hill Estate for inviting us to your home. When we set foot on your property we felt immediate happiness and peace, and we knew we were in for a splendid day. We can’t wait to see what new endeavours you have up your sleeve, and wish you all the best.
