From humble beginnings at their Unley Road store, Steven Ter Horst has finally expanded and moved to a more central location. Now located on Rundle Street, the place is more stylish and sophisticated. The polished concrete flooring, the wall mounted shelving and the ceiling flushed lighting make this store very minimalist. The dark colour tones are offset by the natural light that flows through from the floor to ceiling glass entry. The exposed brick wall (which will soon be worked on by an artist) and the communal timber bench gives this place a more casual vibe. At the rear of the store is a private tasting area designated for those special events.

For regular customers of their previous store, the menu is pretty much the same and holds no surprises. From delicious desserts, pastries, and hot and cold beverages, there’s basically something for everyone. With locally sourced ingredients combined with the highest quality Belgian chocolate, their offerings were already a recipe for success, so why change it? They’ve introduced some new products in their take home chocolate range which I’ve yet to try!

For dessert, I had the Mascarpone Dream. A delicate and sweet caramel glaze covering a light and fluffy mascarpone cheese. Inside the mascarpone is a soft hazelnut mousse which then sits on top of a firm yet crumbly dacquoise base. I’ve had this dessert before and it was even better the second time around!

Steven, Chantelle and their team are ever so friendly and it was absolute pleasure just to talk to them. The service was excellent, but that’s a given at this store. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is consistent with their previous store. With all the dessert stores opening up on Rundle Street, this place will definitely give their competitors a run for their money!
