British Food Indulge – Food Review

Adelaide has truly been blessed with a true taste of Britain this October. Located just on the corner of Pirie Street in the CBD you’ll find British Food Indulge, a cozy spot to enjoy British classics with a twist.

British Food Indulge is Adelaide’s first Yorkshire themed café and eatery, which is set to serve English favourites such as fish and chips, Yorkshire puddings and a full English breakfast.

Cynthia, the owner and frequent traveler, was inspired by her British friend to begin a traditional English fish and chip shop in Adelaide. She loved the food whilst she travelled around the U.K and saw that there was a huge gap in Adelaide for some good English grub. This idea evolved into British Food Indulge, featuring more British classics other than fish and chips.

Cynthia is very keen on sailing and the ocean, which has followed into the décor of the café. Inside there is a crisp, nautical theme that is very common in fish and chip shops in the U.K.

Being from the north of England myself, I had very high expectations. I have been brought up with huge Yorkshire puddings made by my Mum and Nana, so the bar was set very high. I was not disappointed! The food here is a huge taste of home and is definitely not to be missed by fellow Brits or those just wanting to try a hearty taste of northern England.

They are planning on introducing more menu items later in the year, including Yorkshire pudding desserts.

Here is what we tried:

Full English Breakfast
The best way to start the day, this brekkie is huge and delicious. Packed with smoky baked beans, pork sausage, black pudding, fried eggs, grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms and, surprisingly, a scone! We loved all the classic flavours from this breakfast, and the scone was a fun twist. And yes, the black pudding was ‘bloody’ brilliant!

Fish & Chips
Finally, thick home-cut chips! This is what we have been waiting for, thick cut chips soaked in vinegar with battered cod. Such a taste of the seaside or a good night out, this is one to try. You don’t see home-cut chips very often in Adelaide, so get on it!

Traditional Yorkshire Pudding with Roast Beef
We got the Yorkshire puds in the regular size and the family size. With your choice of roast pork or beef, mushy peas or roast potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and homemade gravy, this is a hard one to miss. One could argue that the ‘family’ size is just the right size for one, but we will let you be the judge!

Indulge Angus Beef Yorkshire Pudding Burger
Now this is a burger! A modern fusion to the well-loved Yorkshire pud. Two Yorkshire puddings packed with a herbed beef patty, bacon, cheese, tomato, lettuce and gravy. Served with a size of thick home-cut chips, this burger is well worth a try.

If you’d like to grab a taste of England yourself, head on over to British Food Indulge on Pirie Street, Adelaide. Open Monday-Wednesday 7.30am-2.30pm and Thursday-Friday 7.30am-6.00pm.

Thank you so much to British Food Indulge for giving me a taste of home and for encouraging others to try out the great food of Great Britain!
