Diner en Blanc 2016

Adelaide was a spectacle of white last night for Diner En Blanc’s annual all white dinner party. Celebrating their 4th year of involvement with the event, hundreds gathered in Elder Park next to the Torrens River for a night of wine, food and spectacular live music.

Sponsored by the beloved local Tomich wines of the Adelaide Hills, they supplied the party with their sparkling wine, sauvignon blanc and pinot gris. People danced, drank and sat under the stars while Elder Park became a mirror of the starry night sky.

Celebrating Diner En Blanc’s 25th anniversary in 2013, it has become a global sensation, with over 70 countries participating annually including New York, Paris, Milan, London, Sydney and many more.

Quests became charcuterie masters, as they were encouraged to bring their own picnic baskets and became creative bringing various arrays of cheeses, meats, fruits and desserts. Some tables even got inventive, bringing an ‘all white menu’ including white carbonara pasta and homemade tapioca.

One could not help but become mesmerized by the communal napkin shake off and the lighting of the sparklers, where the grounds turned into a sea of floating fireflies behind the setting sun.

With each year setting a different secret location, the mystic, excitement and feeling of community became heightened and I could only feel proud to be living in such a beautiful city such as Adelaide. Strangers became friends, friends became lovers and Adelaide became magical as the night finally came to an end at 11pm.  If you missed out on the enchantment that was Diner En Blanc Adelaide 2016, I worry you not, there will always be next year!
