Fire and Stone is a small pizza store located on Glynburn Road in Firle. It’s a licensed venue that prides itself on using fresh and high quality ingredients on their pizzas. The dough is made on site and allowed to ferment for 24 hours. Their pizzas are then cooked in a wood fired oven. Sounds like a recipe for success to me!
Tonight, I ordered a pizza with the lot (Tutto Mangiasti). We came here in a group of 9 and it appears their pizza oven only cooked 8 pizzas at a time. While everybody else’s pizza came out pretty much the same time, mine took an extra 15 minutes after the eighth pizza came out. So in total, I waited 30 minutes for my meal, which was probably bad luck.
A good pizza is rather subjective and depends on one’s tastes. Some people like their crusts thick, some people like plenty of toppings and some people like plenty of stringy mozzarella cheese. For me, the pizzas here are just right. The amount of topping is just adequate and the variety of toppings is distributed proportionally over the pizza. The quality of their ingredients are fresh and you get the smokey flavours that come from being cooked in a wood oven. The crust is thin and crisp without being crunchy, and you don’t feel bloated or thirsty after eating one of their pizzas.
If there was one thing that annoyed me about this place, it was the number of flies buzzing around. It was wet and wintery outside and yet half a dozen flies sought refuge inside this store. Apart from that, the staff were friendly and the service was pretty good. The pizzas were tasty and reasonably priced. The store can seat a maximum of 30, so if you want to dine in, it’s best to book. They also offer a range of dessert pizzas as well so you’ve got all your bases covered.
